Sanmar Shipyards Has Delivered Two Tugs to SMS Towage

Sanmar delivered two more tugboats from Kısmet V in Turkey to SMS Towage, the UK’s largest independent towage company. SMS Towage has been a loyal customer for years and Kısmet V remains committed to delivering top-notch vessels.

With 14 tugboats delivered to us total, we’ve had the privilege of working with some really great clients. The first project we completed together was in 2008.

The tugs were originally known as SIRAPINAR XVIII and SIRAPINAR XV while working in Türkiye but when their owner, which has a fleet strategically positioned around the UK, purchased them, they renamed the tugs TRUEMAN and KINGSMAN respectively.

The twin sisters, who were based on the Canadian 2200 design from naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., measure 22.4 meters long with a 10.84 meter beam and 4.85 meter navigational draft, but that doesn’t stop them from hopping in the water for a nice day of sailing.

The twin Z-drive, diesel-powered tugs are designed for efficient performance while towing ships. They each have two Cat 3512C engines that will provide 1,500 horsepower and spin Schottel SRP turbines with a 360-degree turning radius.

Trueman and Kingsman have a bollard pull of 52 tons ahead and 49 tons astern. They travel at an approximate speed of 11.5 knots with respective capacities of 72m3 of fuel oil, 10.8m3 of fresh water and 2.4m3 foam tank. Each tug also has a fire-fighting pump that can reach 1,200m3/hour with a clutched flexible coupling in front.

Trueman and Kingsman are both classified by Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) as CX Tug X  AUT-UMS, INWATERSURVEY, Unrestricted Navigation, MLC DESIGN.
